Spring 2011 Graduate Elective in Interpersonal Communication

Dr. Raup-Krieger will be offering a graduate seminar in the Spring quarter entitled, "Health Communication in Interpersonal Contexts." This course provides an overview of classic and contemporary literature about the antecedents, processes, and outcomes of interpersonal communication about matters of health and illness. The primary goals of the seminar are to familiarize students with the major theories and research studies that comprise this integrated body of literature, encourage critical thinking about the state-of-knowledge in the field, and facilitate independent reading and research on a topic of personal interest. This seminar will focus on five general areas: (a) health and identity, (b) health and personal relationships, (c) health care provider-patient interaction, (d) interpersonal health education and prevention efforts, and (e) health inequities. This interdisciplinary course is appropriate for students from all areas with interests in interpersonal or health communication.

  1. I know that the last time you offered this seminar students found it useful, as you covered a range of theories and topics. You also created enough discussion space for all to participate. So for any students looking for an interpersonal communication course to take soon, consider taking this seminar!
